Title:
Mycelium Block Building for Eco-Art Education

Author:
Stuart Bruce-Noble

Description:
My art project consists of an educational science kit designed for Primary schools to educate children on the fungal field of biology. My mushroom and mycelium grow kit will allow children to grow their own mushrooms and mycelium building blocks while learning about fungi, biological nutrient cycles, sustainable materials, healthy food, as well as training their observational skills. My goal is to increase awareness of biomaterials and to generate a greener global environment through art and science. My project takes the form of a science experiment kit that can be integrated into schools’ art and science curriculum where teachers can explain the various stages of the experiment and use it to introduce new biological concepts. I am committed to my creative project to showcase the many ways in which fungi can be used to create a sustainable future while giving the user a chance to connect with and get excited about nature as they learn. If more people knew of this potential many would be inclined to be ecologically responsible with their material usage and waste management. Fungi, is a safe, natural, biomaterial being used to replace the 400 million tons of plastic produced each year and I believe educating the public on its importance is paramount.
