Through the concept of potatoes as currency we address the absurdity and intangibility of our financial systems and consumption. Potato money visualises an alternate future where wealth accumulation is problematic and a circular economy thrives. It’s value is backed on nutritional content, making it difficult to exploit and readdressing our most fundamental needs. Like mining for Bitcoin it has a direct correlation to labour, but crucially it assimilates financial and environmental costs.
