Award 2021
Welcome to the Social Art Award 2021 – Online Gallery!
We are grateful for the many inspiring contributions from artists around the world. The selected works reflect a broad spectrum of contemporary social art practices and explore new relationships between humans, nature, and technology. They address themes such as ecological regeneration, climate justice, sustainable futures, social resilience, and more-than-human perspectives.
Below you will find the submissions from the Social Art Award 2021 – New Greening edition that passed the initial jury round. The Online Gallery offers public visibility to these works and encourages dialogue around their ideas and approaches; it does not replace the final jury decision.
Thank you to all artists for sharing your visionary and committed work. We invite you to explore the gallery and engage with the perspectives shaping New Greening.
Do let me feel it (n.563) - the Classic series
Alessio Mazzarulli
Do let me feel it (n.563) - the Classic series, 58 x 85 x 2,50 cm, Acrylic painting on shredded paper on canvas (mixed media) The Classic series" are inspired by masterpieces of art history. In particular this artwork is inspired by "Spring maiden" 1884 - Sir Francis Bernard Dicksee (1853-1928). It's a very welcome to the most colourful season. In my last works I'm using my own technique recycling office paper and dayly life paper such as bills, receipts, invoices, financial statements, tax collection folders, business plans, magazines. During the compulsory quarantine due to COVID-19, having finished all the supplies of A4 paper to be recycled, I started shredding all the paper in the house considered waste. Thus the latest works have a greater consistency and materiality due to the presence of less delicate paper than the simple A4 sheet. The wrapping paper present in the products purchased and consumed in daily life, reappears in another form, avoiding landfill: containers of pasta, flour, cans of tuna, toothpaste, drugs, ice cream, advertising flyers...
