Award 2021
Welcome to the Social Art Award 2021 – Online Gallery!
We are grateful for the many inspiring contributions from artists around the world. The selected works reflect a broad spectrum of contemporary social art practices and explore new relationships between humans, nature, and technology. They address themes such as ecological regeneration, climate justice, sustainable futures, social resilience, and more-than-human perspectives.
Below you will find the submissions from the Social Art Award 2021 – New Greening edition that passed the initial jury round. The Online Gallery offers public visibility to these works and encourages dialogue around their ideas and approaches; it does not replace the final jury decision.
Thank you to all artists for sharing your visionary and committed work. We invite you to explore the gallery and engage with the perspectives shaping New Greening.
Embryo
NATALI CONDORI MAMANI
The project is in an experimental art video format. With images of networks of neuronal synapses, cells, reefs and corals. And it has a performance. These images were superimposed and contrasted. The narrative talks about the creation of human consciousness starting from the idea of what the beginning of the universe would be. Just as we came from an embryo, the universe was also an “embryo” formed from chemical reactions that resulted in the “big bang”. In a quote Lemaître, author of the Big Bang theory says “If the world had started with a single quantum, the notions of space and time would have no meaning at the beginning; they would only begin to have a meaningful meaning when the original quantum had been divided into a sufficient number. If this suggestion is correct, the beginning of the world happened just before the beginning of space and time. ” The embryo is formed and expands until it forms a human being, this one even after being born does not stop expanding. The human mind continues to expand all the time, and just like cells, the mind replicates itself, because by generating more human beings we also generate more conscious minds. These conscious minds as long as the container that keeps them last, make several connections with other beings. However, our exchanges are not at all as nature requires, because I believe that the reason for such connections is to create a great consciousness that can survive, evolve and go beyond the container called Earth. We have been expanding since the big bang, but expansion is the expansion of consciousness itself. Finally, we can assume that it is a larger container, the Earth. Upon awakening, the Earth will begin a new cycle, upon awakening from a greater being with the same purpose: to continue expanding until it originates another “being”. The intention is to make the public question about the connections and similarities between different aspects of our existence. Internet networks are similar to synapses, just as there is a similarity between the world in the ocean and the terrestrial world. And the similarities that the human body has with other beings of nature. The images have different layers that the public can appreciate and question.
