We are grateful for the many inspiring contributions from artists around the world. The selected works reflect a broad spectrum of contemporary social art practices and explore new relationships between humans, nature, and technology. They address themes such as ecological regeneration, climate justice, sustainable futures, social resilience, and more-than-human perspectives.
Below you will find the submissions from the Social Art Award 2021 – New Greening edition that passed the initial jury round. The Online Gallery offers public visibility to these works and encourages dialogue around their ideas and approaches; it does not replace the final jury decision.

''The Boy Needs to Cool Off'' began on-site in the Canary Island when visual artist Antonio D’Addio visited areas of wildfire devastation during the great fire on 2019. The creation of the armor is inspired by the vision of a man walking through fire. An armor to defend, an armor to act the change. The armor is composed by 78 handmade silver plates, each including an engraving which forms a visual journey that investigates the physical phenomenon of heat waves and wildfires, focusing the attention on the U.N. projections for the year 2100: 10.9 billion climate refugees. Every single person from the equatorial regions dispossessed of their homes and turned outward to wander through hostile territories in search of a new one, forced to share the same lands -> NO FOOD -> NO LAND -> WAR. The text and illustrations engraved on the plates are formed from scientistic found sources, poems are written in collaboration with English poet Joseph Issac. The Boy Needs to Cool Off is an interdisciplinary project that investigates new methodologies to encourage change through self-awareness. Art is a mirror, sometimes reflects the present, sometimes it mirrors future landscapes. Art complements revolutions both theoretically (Jacques-Louis David), and physically (think about the Situationism). Art explores the tangible human, colliding with science (Da Vinci - Bill Viola - Olafur Eliasson - Pina Bausch) and the non-tangible human (Dali - Lynch - Jung - Jodorowsky). It affects the way we perceive and act in the world. Even if artists declare this not to be their intention, art always mirrors politics since art is an opinion, a point of view on the world. Getting in touch with different point of views widens the mind, make you change your mind. Changing your mind changes the world. Culture and knowledge are the only weapons we have to battle consumism and switch to GREEN, turning our life in a peaceful co-existence with GAIA (the earth).
