Award 2021

Welcome to the Social Art Award 2021 – Online Gallery!

We are grateful for the many inspiring contributions from artists around the world. The selected works reflect a broad spectrum of contemporary social art practices and explore new relationships between humans, nature, and technology. They address themes such as ecological regeneration, climate justice, sustainable futures, social resilience, and more-than-human perspectives.

Below you will find the submissions from the Social Art Award 2021 – New Greening edition that passed the initial jury round. The Online Gallery offers public visibility to these works and encourages dialogue around their ideas and approaches; it does not replace the final jury decision.

Thank you to all artists for sharing your visionary and committed work. We invite you to explore the gallery and engage with the perspectives shaping New Greening.

Title:
Imaginarium

Author:
Sandra Contente

Description:
Imaginarium is my dream representation of the seabed, it is proposed that the viewer bring their own subconscious imagination and interpretation of the work, making an analogy between what society sees, (such as, for example, the beauty of a landscape, which is superficial and the pollution existing in it). The choice of materials used in this composition brings a new dimension to my work, full of meaning. The first material chosen is the land harvested at Portinho da Arrábida beach, belonging to the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, Setúbal Portugal (at a time when the dredging of the Sado River was approved in favor of consumerism, calling into question some environmental issues) then, "garbage", like reused paper, gives expression to the existing pollution of our rivers and seas. Eggshell applied as a symbol of the origin of life and ash as a representation of death, promoting the relationship between the paradigm shift that makes the difference between life and death. Intending to sensitize society, to the need for more conscious consumption and change of attitude, in order to reduce the pollution of our planet.
