Welcome to the Social Art Award 2025 – Online Gallery!
We are grateful for the many powerful contributions from artists across the globe. The selected works reflect the diversity of contemporary social art practices and address urgent issues such as climate and water crises, social and economic inequality, migration, conflict, discrimination, and the protection of human and more-than-human life.
Below you will find the submissions from the edition of 2024/2025 that passed the initial jury round. The Online Gallery offers public visibility to these works and supports dialogue around their themes; it does not replace the final jury decision.
Thank you to all artists for sharing your inspiring and committed work. We invite you to explore the gallery and engage with the perspectives shaping the Social Art Award 2025.
UNITED STAR OF EUROPE
Heike Krause aka TrashmaidBerlin
The UNITED STAR OF EUROPE is the result of an EU art project I initiated. Via a call on Instagram, I asked trash collectors and artists from all member states of the European Union to send yellow plastic trash they collected outside (on beaches, in parks, in the mountains, on the streets etc.), photos and a text about themselves and their environmental activities. I used this trash to create the 150 cm x 150 cm UNITED STAR OF EUROPE in the shape of the stars of the European flag. When the star is shown at exhibitions, visitors can use a QR code to access the associated website: https://www.trashmaidberlin.de/PROJEKTE/UNITED-STAR-OF-EUROPE There they will find information about the project and can read and view the texts and photos of the 61 project participants from all 27 EU member states.
