Welcome to the Social Art Award 2025 – Online Gallery!
We are grateful for the many powerful contributions from artists across the globe. The selected works reflect the diversity of contemporary social art practices and address urgent issues such as climate and water crises, social and economic inequality, migration, conflict, discrimination, and the protection of human and more-than-human life.
Below you will find the submissions from the edition of 2024/2025 that passed the initial jury round. The Online Gallery offers public visibility to these works and supports dialogue around their themes; it does not replace the final jury decision.
Thank you to all artists for sharing your inspiring and committed work. We invite you to explore the gallery and engage with the perspectives shaping the Social Art Award 2025.
Beneath the Storm
Callie Danae Hirsch
Ocean restoration and water conservation My passion for the sea has led me to embark on this project in the tropical setting of St. Petersburg. Surrounded by lush personal gardens teeming with unique botanicals, my artwork mirrors the vibrant environment and the community's aspirations for a healthy, plant-driven society. I was honored with a Permanent Public Art Commission from NYC MTA Arts & Design at the Beach 105th Street Station (A/S train) in Rockaway NY. The three large panels were fabricated in faceted glass and epoxy and maintained by the MTA for the next 100 years. It is an above ground station, two blocks from the sea. Most recently I have completed a five month residency at Maker Space NYC, culminating in a ten month public art show at Makerpark, Staten Island. My artwork is in four paintings on metal, 4.5’ x 1.5’, titled “Beneath the Storm”. Exploring the intricate world beneath the ocean's surface, illustrating the coexistence of two distinct realms. Above the sea, human activities profoundly impact life below, yet without the emotional and humanistic context.
