Welcome to the Social Art Award 2025 – Online Gallery!

We are grateful for the many powerful contributions from artists across the globe. The selected works reflect the diversity of contemporary social art practices and address urgent issues such as climate and water crises, social and economic inequality, migration, conflict, discrimination, and the protection of human and more-than-human life.

Below you will find the submissions from the edition of 2024/2025 that passed the initial jury round. The Online Gallery offers public visibility to these works and supports dialogue around their themes; it does not replace the final jury decision.

Thank you to all artists for sharing your inspiring and committed work. We invite you to explore the gallery and engage with the perspectives shaping the Social Art Award 2025.

Title:
Oceanic Humanity

Author:
Anna Vassena Avvassena

Description:
Oceanic Humanity is an artwork stemming from the Ubuntu Project, inspired by the Sub-Saharan Ubuntu philosophy, which views the individual as part of a greater whole that connects humans and Nature. The piece explores the intersection of aerial views of oceans and X-ray scans of individuals, creating a cosmic dimension that dissolves the boundaries between self and other. The X-ray plates symbolize both the uniqueness of each person and the total equality among individuals, conveying a universal message of shared vulnerability. The image, more resembling lava than oceans, serves as an alarming warning about the risks we all face—both as individuals and as a collective. It emphasizes our visceral and primal connection with water, a foundational element of life that shapes our existence. Oceanic Humanity encourages reflection on our inseparable bond with Earth and all living beings, urging a global commitment to safeguard and regenerate the essential connections that unite all forms of life.
