Welcome to the Social Art Award 2021 – Online Gallery!
We are grateful for the many inspiring contributions from artists around the world. The selected works reflect a broad spectrum of contemporary social art practices and explore new relationships between humans, nature, and technology. They address themes such as ecological regeneration, climate justice, sustainable futures, social resilience, and more-than-human perspectives.
Below you will find the submissions from the Social Art Award 2021 – New Greening edition that passed the initial jury round. The Online Gallery offers public visibility to these works and encourages dialogue around their ideas and approaches; it does not replace the final jury decision.

The Island - participatory art project

THE ISLAND is an art project in the public urban space and will be realized in August 2021 in Berlin in the area of Prerower Platz. About 150 tons of sand are unloaded and spreaded onto the square; deck chairs and parasols will be set up. ABOVE the paving stones, the beach! Random passers-by can take a rest here and take part in several activities ans discussions. I write messages in the sand with sticks and with pens on the large cylinder in the middle of the island. There will be a post office, where you can take a bottle, write a letter, and then take it with you as message in a bottle for others. For the entire duration of 6 weeks, I will live in a caravan on the site.
