Title:
Without Filters - Lucky Tree - 4.58 pm

Author:
Osvaldo Neirotti

Description:
I made 30 public works in Turin (Italy) which deal with 3 topics Art-Environment-Social; through the works I protect the Urban Trees by giving them a mask of Color capable of sensitizing people that climate improvement starts from the neighborhood where you live. Natural Pesticides are made with Lime, Milk, Flour, Natural Pigments, Water and Linseed Oil; principle used by grandparents in the countryside or in states such as Greece, Belgium, Portugal, USA, Israel ... They sprinkle the stems with white lime to protect them from parasites, UV rays and cracks. In cities, trees are no longer noticed or considered sufficiently, smog from cars and heating fills the air with PM10 and PM2.5 carcinogenic substances that are not good for us or for Urban Trees. These substances color the stems black, making the trees sick; Art is used as protection by trying to open their eyes so that everyone does their part to save the environment. With the simple presence each protected and painted Tree shows the Environmental theme, it becomes a sentinel. With the Municipal Administrations we have chosen different social themes, 4 Memorial Trees for 4 African American boys killed such as George Flyd, the Tree of the woman that testifies to the evil of abuse against women, or the UGINO Tree visible from the structure and made to honor towards children with Cancer and others have made it possible to recognize Turin as the City of Trees. The work presented is an important example given the bad habit of many smokers in throwing the cigarette butt on the ground. In this case a big butt teaches the visitor not to pollute, but to put out the cigarette and throw the butt in the trash can or in the portable ashtray; specifically on the tree, in the writing where there is no color), it says "A cigarette to you, 4000 poisons to me". An inscription that says that each cigarette filter contains 4000 poisonous substances and that if dispersed in the environment they are included in Nature and will certainly also end up in our food. Land Art is shown in public recognizing that Urban Trees are life and must be protected; unfortunately this art does not enter homes and that is why I stop for hours at each completed work to capture the emotions, the surprise of passersby, their indifference or their amazement, the change and the new attitude they adopt. Panoramic photographs are unique and are not reprinted; they allow me to bring my art and message into homes, galleries, collectors, companies and public bodies. For each arboreal work I make 3/5 shots, each one is original, the only and minimal manipulation takes place through the saturation of the background color; in this case the photographic work becomes historical testimony and each of them is classified with the time of realization. Each Tree acquires a name, it is no longer considered an object, but a being; in this case the name is Lucky. With the works created, especially with 7 works similar to the one presented, in several districts of Turin (Italy) I had the proof that it is possible to sensitize people who live in the city, often not used to interacting with the external environment. Human Beings often see the problem only when it touches them live, the idea of the environment, through Art, I bring it under the house and in everyday life. The works have become reference points, in many areas the inhabitants have added benches, periodically clean the area from garbage and plastic, in some cases they have given way to groups dedicated to collecting butts after leisure or a bit of sport . We can consider the Colored Urban Trees as the ancient rock art, it shows the life of the village, hunting, spirituality and many truths about the life of the period, good things and bad things. Art Trees are not cut down, they are protected and teach; the intent is to bring this Art to many European cities to change the positive attitude of city people who do not yet have a certain sensitivity towards protecting the Planet.
