Award 2021

Welcome to the Social Art Award 2021 – Online Gallery!

We are grateful for the many inspiring contributions from artists around the world. The selected works reflect a broad spectrum of contemporary social art practices and explore new relationships between humans, nature, and technology. They address themes such as ecological regeneration, climate justice, sustainable futures, social resilience, and more-than-human perspectives.

Below you will find the submissions from the Social Art Award 2021 – New Greening edition that passed the initial jury round. The Online Gallery offers public visibility to these works and encourages dialogue around their ideas and approaches; it does not replace the final jury decision.

Thank you to all artists for sharing your visionary and committed work. We invite you to explore the gallery and engage with the perspectives shaping New Greening.

Title:
Asphalt-Rubber Instalation

Author:
Marcos Pereira de Almeida

Description:
The project consists of an INSTALLATION of a mountain of tire rubber, ground in the process of retreading the tires of machines and trucks. This mountain of rubber invading the environment, must cause the perception of the voluptuousness of development, overwhelming everything and everyone. The installation has a sensory side, when stepped on it causes a feeling of instability that refers to the “SUS or unsustainable” development. In addition, the smell of the rubber is striking and characteristic. The installation expresses my criticism of the development process, without sufficient care for our environment, lives or natural resources. . My pleasant surprise when looking for this material for painting and installation at its origin, was to discover that the tire, once cut and scraped, ends up being a material rich in recycling used in new asphalt and other uses, such as synthetic grasses, shoe soles, floor insulators, changing from villain to ally of sustainability.
