We congratulate the winners of the Social Art Award 2021!

A big thank you to all artists for their thought-provoking and meaningful contributions to the Social Art Award under the topic “New Greening”.

The professional jury was very impressed by 727 submissions from 147 countries and had a very hard time to decide as each work was very valuable! As a result, we came to the conclusion to select three final winners and award outstanding works with Special Prizes and an Honorable Mention.

We congratulate the three winners:

FlowGarden
Joy Lohmann

The first prize of the Social Art Award 2021 goes to Joy Lohmann (DE) for his international co-creative and collaborative work reflecting on climate change and sea level rising „Flowgarden“.

Blue Eyed Grass
Rosalind Lowry

Rosalind Lowry (UK) with „Blue Eyed Grass on the Boglands of Ireland“, a kinetic land art installation presenting endangered species to the public, receives the 2nd prize.

Mapping Greenness
Mo Langmuir

Mo Langmuir (UK) with „Mapping Greenness“ is the 3rd prize winner based on his participatory project with pupils in the city of Nottingham to imagine greener futures for the city.

Bioremediating Missile
Jos Volkers

In cooperation with the Zero Waste Berlin Festival, Jos Volkers (NL) is awarded the Social Art Award – Special Prize for his work „Bioremediating Missile“, a rocket full of seeds to restore European biodiversity, being the most provocative.

Symbiotic Futures
Romy Snijders

The Social Art Award – Special Prize, in cooperation with the Art for Future Lab, goes to Romy Snijders(NL)Symbiotic Futures“ for being the most visionary work as she proposes to learn the language of trees.

White Butterflies
Milan Rai

An Honorable Mention for the most locally impactful work goes to Milan Rai (NP) for „White Butterflies“, a public art intervention as a peaceful protest in Nepal against deforestation.

Again a heartfelt thank you goes to all participants and jury members in this year’s Social Art Award 2021! It is wonderful and inspiring to see you all claiming art as a catalyst for sustainable transformation. Let us all join forces and spread the momentum for a coalition for understanding and negotiating towards positive and green futures!
