Award 2021
Welcome to the Social Art Award 2021 – Online Gallery!
We are grateful for the many inspiring contributions from artists around the world. The selected works reflect a broad spectrum of contemporary social art practices and explore new relationships between humans, nature, and technology. They address themes such as ecological regeneration, climate justice, sustainable futures, social resilience, and more-than-human perspectives.
Below you will find the submissions from the Social Art Award 2021 – New Greening edition that passed the initial jury round. The Online Gallery offers public visibility to these works and encourages dialogue around their ideas and approaches; it does not replace the final jury decision.
Thank you to all artists for sharing your visionary and committed work. We invite you to explore the gallery and engage with the perspectives shaping New Greening.
Beginning and end of a landscape
Lautaro Bertone
Aesthetic ConceptMy language or visual poetics was developed over many years and is the result of my relationshipwith nature, the city and the history of art. It is an urban aesthetic with natural elements andinterests. The influences of pictorial materialism and informalism (movements that were decisivein my formation) are present in it, as well as Argentine popular art, especially Buenos Airesfilleting. My ultimate intention is to return and interact with nature from an urban aesthetic, conceived in the city, with all that this means and presupposes. Return to nature to reflect it withinfected environments of the city, culture and various contaminations. See what arises from thatencounter between the aerosol and the natural environment. Delving into the landscape from myparticular vision. Recreate the natural environment from spray, acrylic and urban culture. It is the duty of art to reflect and promote cultural and social changes. Artists are the sensitive avant-garde of society, its skin. It is on them that the first signs of the future impress their nerves. It is from there that the artist must tell us about the future and the new news for the society where he lives. In this sense and at present, art must fulfill the function of raising awareness about the risks we run in the event of continuing to violate our environment and habitat with impunity, exterminating flora and fauna, polluting and poisoning skies and seas, ungratefully destroying our common home. . A change of consciousness is imposed and art has a responsibility in all this.
